Privacy Policy
Effective date: November 2, 2025
This Privacy Policy describes how Ask Mhanzi Music Player ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application available on Google Play (the “App”). By installing or using the App you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1. Information you provide directly
- Account / Cloud sync (optional): If you choose to sign in or enable cloud backup, we may collect identifying information such as your email address and a display name. Signing in is optional; offline playback does not require an account.
- User feedback & support: When you contact support or report an issue, you may provide email, logs, or other debug info.
- Submitted URLs or preferences: If you add an online MP3/stream URL or save favorites/playlists, those items are stored in app storage or your account (if signed in).
1.2. Automatically collected information
- Usage data: App usage metrics such as which screens you visit, which features are used, play counts, and basic analytics about crashes or errors.
- Device information: Device model, OS version, app version, and basic performance data.
- Connectivity status: Whether the device is online or offline (used to display offline messages and prevent streaming attempts when there is poor connectivity).
1.3. Permissions and local data
- Storage / Media access: The app requests permission to read your device's audio files so it can list and play local MP3s. Files remain on your device—we do not upload them unless you opt into cloud backup.
- Microphone (optional): If you enable voice search or voice features, the microphone permission is required and audio input may be processed locally or sent to a voice service only with your explicit consent.
- Network / Internet: Required to stream online audio, fetch station lists, or check for updates.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and maintain app features (local playback, streaming, playlists, favorites).
- Enable optional cloud backup or sync of playlists and favorites when you sign in.
- Diagnose and fix problems (crash reports, analytics), and improve app performance and user experience.
- Respond to support requests and process your feedback.
3. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: Third-party services that help operate the App (analytics, crash reporting, cloud storage) may receive limited data for those purposes. See Third-party services below for details.
- Legal requests: We may disclose information when required by law or to respond to lawful requests by public authorities.
- Business transfers: If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction under confidentiality protections.
4. Third-Party Services & SDKs
The App may use third-party services, SDKs, or APIs for analytics, crash reporting, and optional cloud functionality. Examples include, but are not limited to:
- Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (for usage metrics and crash reports)
- Google Play services (for install/referral attribution)
- Radio directories (when fetching internet radio station lists)
These services have their own privacy policies; we recommend reviewing them directly. We limit the data shared with these providers to what is necessary for the service to function (e.g., anonymized usage data, app version, device model, and crash traces).
5. Local Storage & Retention
- Playlist data, favorites, recent play history, and app preferences are stored locally on the device or in your account if you enable cloud sync.
- If you enable cloud backup, your playlists and favorites may be stored on the cloud provider we use (e.g., Firebase). You may request deletion of your cloud data (see “Your Rights” below).
- We retain diagnostic data for the time needed to analyze and fix issues; aggregated analytics data may be retained longer in anonymized form to improve the product.
6. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Please avoid sending highly sensitive personal information through the App.
7. Children
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a child has provided us data, please contact us and request deletion.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing. To exercise any rights, please contact us at the address below. We will respond in accordance with applicable law.
9. Opt-Out & Control
- Analytics: You may opt-out of analytics collection by toggling the setting in App → Settings → Usage & Analytics (if available) or by uninstalling the App.
- Cloud data deletion: If you used cloud sync and want your data removed, contact us and we will delete your cloud-stored playlists and preferences upon verification.
10. International Transfers
Because we and our service providers may operate in multiple countries, information collected may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your residence. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your rights.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective date” at the top and, where appropriate, notify you through the App or Google Play listing. Continued use of the App after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
